The Sauza family’s legacy in tequila making goes back five generations to Don Cenobio, who is credited with exporting the first “mezcal de tequila” to the United States, introducing the name “Tequila,” using steam for agave cooking instead of an earthen pit, and selecting Blue Agave as the ideal variety. Fortaleza, which was launched in 2005, is a tribute to this rich heritage.
